Order of Magnitude – Top 5 Supercars under £100k

Order of Magnitude – Top 5 Supercars under £100k

Supercar ownership may sometimes feel like a bit of a pipedream, but it may be closer than you think.

Here we take a look at five of the best supercars on the market that you can get for under £100k.

5. Audi R8 (2018)

When thinking of supercars, Audi may not be the first brand to cross your mind. Whilst well known as a prestige brand, you’d be forgiven for not instantly thinking of the German manufacturer alongside the likes of Lamborghini, McLaren or Ferrari.

However, the Audi R8 is a supercar that certainly deserves the title. Sensibly priced from new, a relatively young used Audi R8 can be picked up for under £100k – and that’s with under 10k miles on the clock. You can find earlier models with higher mileage at a much more affordable price too, but we’ll focus on the 5.2 V10 Plus.

With a top speed of 205mph, and a 0-62mph in 3.2-seconds – the 5.2 FSI V10 Plus delivers 602bhp.

Highly regarded as one of the most revolutionary vehicles of it’s time when first launched in 2006, Audi have worked tirelessly to continue to improve and build on the original model – whilst never straying too far from it’s iconic silhouette.

You won’t have to look hard to find one well within your £100k budget, and you could even have a bit of change left over for a small run-around to keep the mileage down.

4. Lamborghini Gallardo (2013)

The poster car for a generation of petrolheads, the Lamborghini Gallardo became iconic in the early 2000’s, and marked the beginning of a new era for Lamborghini as VW/ Audi took over the reigns. It is definitely one of the motoring icons of the new millenium.

The 5.2 LP550-2 Roadster wasn’t produced in big numbers, but the rare model can be picked up at just under £100k. The Gallardo was well built and durable – the manual box was pretty good (the automated manual “E-Gear” wasn’t), and the V10 is an absolute peach. You can even expect to get over 20,000 miles out of a Gallardo clutch – try that in a Ferrari 430…

With a top speed of 198mph, and 0-60mph in 4.2 seconds, the Gallardo is not the fastest supercar you can get for under £100k, however it’s a piece of automotive history for under £100k – and the only desirable Lamborghini you can really expect to pick up under that price mark too.

3. Ferrari California T (2015)

The Italian manufacturer is arguably the most sought after vehicle manufacturer in history, which might just make the California T the perfect supercar under £100,000.

Not only is it a fantastic marque to have in your collection, but it’s also an all-round brilliant supercar. It is a great way to ease yourself into the supercar scene, or Ferrari ownership.

The California T packs a V8 twin-turbocharged 3.9L engine, producing 553bhp. This allows the California to go from 0-62mph in 3.6 seconds, and has an impressive top speed of 196mph.

The T was a big step up from the original California – particularly the Handling Speciale – so don’t be put off by those who tell you it’s not wotrthy of the Ferrari badge. It is.

This Ferrari comes in at just under the £100k mark, where you can expect sub-10k miles on the clock.

2. Aston Martin Vantage

The youngest supercar available on this list, the Vantage represents a real change and nod to the future for Aston Martin. They decided to run with their prototype and created a supercar that looks lightyears ahead of other vehicles at this price point, whilst still echoing Aston Martin’s flagship design. Translated – it’s gorgeous.

Powered by a 4.0L engine, with 503bhp, the Vantage is the slowest of our top five, if you can call it slow. It can still reach speeds of 195mph and take you from 0-62mph in just 3.6 seconds.

You can look to pick up a ’20 plate Vantage with as little as 2,000 miles at the illustrious price point of £100,000 – so there’s plenty of scope to find something nice for less.

1. Mclaren 570S (2018)

It was just the other day when I informed a friend that you could pick up a Mclaren for under £100k as one roared past us on a country lane. He was as surprised as I was when I first found out, and we’re sure there’s a chance it may surprise you too.

Optimised for destroying open roads, the 570S is surprisingly good for day to day use – something that may seem hard to believe.

We’ve chosen the 570S as our top supercar under £100k due to it’s sheer breadth of capability. Whilst not the fastest on the list (just), the point-to-point speed the Mclaren offers puts the 570S in an elite class.

The 570S has earned rave reviews for its handling too – with plaudits for its comfort and ride quality and we can attest to the fact that it is almost Lotus -like in this respect.

What stands out most for us with the 570S is just how jaw-dropping it looks. The McLaren oozes sophistication, and whilst we hate the saying, quite literally does turn heads. Clever, functional and interesting design abounds and we reckon you’ll still be drooling over it years later.

So – the 570S is great value, incredible to drive and looks amazing. A worthy winner.
