First Look: Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS
On Wednesday 20th October 2021 Porsche officially confirmed the 718 Cayman GT4 RS – the car Cayman fans have been waiting for for what seems like an eternity.
Set for its world premiere in November, the new hardcore model has already impressed by blitzing the best efforts of the formidably capable GT4 at the Nurburgring.
What we know so far
Jörg Bergmeister, Porsche’s brand ambassador and development driver, has been putting the new model through its paces on both 20.832km and 20.6km loops, the results? The Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS lapped the 20.832-kilometer Nürburgring-Nordschleife in a lightly disguised production car in 7:09.300 minutes, and the 20.6 km in 7:04.511 minutes – a whopping 23.6 seconds faster than the GT4.
Porsche haven’t released any technical details however, we can confirm a more powerful version of the 4.0-litre compared to the GT4, giving the new Porsche 718 a superior edge.
“We gave the 718 Cayman GT4 RS everything that characterises a genuine RS, Lightweight construction, more downforce, more power and, of course, an even higher level of responsiveness and feedback to driver inputs.”Andreas Preuninger
