Ferrari Portofino – first drive

Ferrari Portofino – first drive

The question everyone seems to be asking about the new Ferrari Portofino is – “does it have the Ferrari magic?” Our man Seen Through Glass gives his verdict.

The press embargo was finally lifted last night and today we have lots of fresh reviews and first drive reports of the eagerly anticipated Ferrari Portofino – the replacement for the California T.

As good as it was, the California never quite charmed the motoring press enough for them to give it the accolade it really needed – that is truly was as red-blooded, visceral and exciting as its mid-engined and V12 Ferrari brethren. That is was a true Ferrari.

The new Portofino has more of everything than the California except weight. Just under 600 bhp, better looking, more tech and quicker. It even sounds better.

But take the time to read the reviews and you could be forgiven for thinking there’s something missing.

“the Portofino is hard to fault considering its undeniable everyday versatility….” Steve Sutcliffe,  AutoExpress

“In some ways this is a more versatile, better luxury sports car than a California…” Matt Saunders, Autocar

“the Portofino is more Ferrari-ish than ever…” Top Gear

We’ll let our resident test driver Sam of Seen Through Glass give his verdict…
